A Tennessee family on a trip to Disney World in Orlando, Florida is claiming that someone tried to track them using an Apple AirTag. The Gaston family was rightfully scared after this revelation.
The family discovered this fact when they got a notification saying that the owner of AirTag device had been tracking them while they were going back to their car via the monorail.
“We were terrified, we were confused, hurt, and scared,” said Jennifer Gaston. “She literally watched it follow us from the tram all the way back to our vehicle.”
Gaston’s daughter told WKRN-TV that the Airtag had been tracking them while in the park for several hours. The family booked it out of the parking lot and called the police.
They were tracking the location of the device and it showed that it was still in the parking lot after they left.
AirTags are devices made by Apple that allow users to track their personal belongings but can obviously be used for more nefarious purposes. Here’s a video about how they work.
“As she was refreshing it, it showed the AirTag was still in our parking spot so somehow when we were frantically shaking out clothes and dumping everything out of our bags it fell out,” Gaston said.
“This story could have ended way differently,” Gaston said. “I’m praising God we have the outcome we have, but it’s because she was diligent and aware of what to do.”
Police say that anyone that finds themselves in a similar situation should go to a public place and not their home where someone would be able to track them.
In the case of the Gaston’s, without possession of the AirTag, there is no way to identify the criminal that could have done it.
