Mayorkas Promises More Deportations After Last Year’s Record-Low Numbers

Faced with questions about the record low number of deportations last year, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas made a promise to Senators on Wednesday that he is applying pressure U.S. Immigration And Customs Enforcement (ICE) to deport more migrants.

Mayorkas has been under fire from Republicans for not securing the southern border as a surge of illegal immigrants have easily crossed into the United States.

According to the Washington Times, many of the 2 million or so people expected to cross the border this year will make bogus asylum claims, and Mr. Mayorkas says after they go through their immigration process they will be swiftly removed.

Ohio Republican Senator Rob Portman strongly disagreed with that assessment that people were being deported quickly.

Portman pointed to the current numbers, which showed 1.2 million people are facing deportation orders, and ICE made just 59,000 removals last year. That’s the lowest figure on record, and much lower than more than 400,000 removals ICE made in 2012 when Mr. Mayorkas ran the government’s citizenship agency under Barack Obama.

Mayorkas conceded that Portman’s numbers were accurate, showing the absurdly low number of deportations that have caused migrants to rush the border.

While conservatives are angry at Mayorkas and Joe Biden for not enforcing immigration laws, they also face growing pressure from the left to completely stop deporting people and make it easier to come into our country.

One national group, FIRM Action, has been organizing the “Relay Across America” protest throughout the country to protect the 11 million people living in America illegally. They have demanded a roadmap for citizenship for people who broke our immigration laws by coming into the country illegally.

Do you think Mayorkas and Biden will withstand the pressure of the left and deport more people who come here illegally?
