After Dave Chappelle Attacked on Stage, LA DA Declines Felony Charges

It was just another Tuesday night in Los Angeles on the Hollywood Bowl Stage at a comedy festival where people pay a lot of money to hear Dave Chappelle tell jokes that many find funny. Others find him triggering so they physically assault him and get away with it per LA crime regulations.

One man got more than he paid for and decided to tackle Chappelle during the show with an ejectable knife/gun with the intent to harm the comedian. It’s his consequence handed by the LA DA that has people completely confused.

Footage of the attack is below.

What comes after the attack, from the Los Angeles District Attorney, comes as a shock to the entire country. After 23-year-old Isaiah Lee, attacked Chappelle, he was first charged with a felony count of assault with a deadly weapon, and bail was set at $30,000.

That next morning DA George Gascon declined the felony charges, and LA City Attorney Mike Feuer slapped the suspect with four misdemeanor crimes including battery, possession of a weapon with the intent to assault, unauthorized access to the stage area during performance, and commission of an act that delays the event.

Let’s recap what actually happened the night before the 23-year-old decided to get the full on-stage experience with the controversial comedian. He got up on stage and tried to attack Chapelle but was decked by his security before he could cause any harm.

The LA police Department confirmed the next day that the attacker carried an ejectable knife, but it is still unknown if he tried to use the knife on Chappelle.

In a police statement Wednesday afternoon, the police claimed, ” the suspect produced what was later discovered to be a replica handgun and pointed the item at the victim. Luckily, witness uniformed security officers, stepped in and took the suspect into custody.”

A video posted later that night showed an unidentified man, assumed to have been the alleged attacker, being taken to the hospital in a stretcher with their elbow bent strangely. It looked broken.

With all that said and done, the 23-year-old received a life-time experience after planning an assault on comedian Dave Chappelle. His consequence for a planned assault with a deadly weapon is a slap on the wrist and a great story to about as he walks free in the already dangerous city of LA.
