The progressive movement that helped launch the Bernie Sanders movement looks to be at an important crossroads after suffering another election setback this week. 

In what was supposed to be a highly anticipated rematch in an Ohio Congressional primary for a Cleveland-area seat turned into a dud as progressive Nina Turner was defeated by a 2-to-1 margin over establishment-backed Congresswoman Shontel Brown. 

This frustration from the radical left may be a good sign for Republicans. The lack of enthusiasm could cause many on the left to stay home for the upcoming midterm election leading to more seats going for the GOP.

The anger was apparent from spiritual author and former Presidential and Congressional candidate Marianne Williamson.

“Party leadership is firmly in the hands of the corporate Democrats,” Williamson told the Hill. “They’re vicious in their determination to keep progressives on the sidelines and out of power.”

These Democrat-on-Democrat battles were occasionally won by the leftists such as AOC and Cori Bush, but now Democratic House Leadership is determined not to let that happen again.

Early this Democratic Caucus Chair Hakeem Jeffries, the fifth ranking Democrat in the House, created Team Blue PAC, a political action committee intended to protect incumbents from primary challenges. One of the people they endorsed was Brown.

Brown also had other PAC’s fund her campaign and picked up the biggest endorsement of all last week, that of Joe Biden.

Another leftist media personality Cenk Uygar, who lost a bid for Congress in California, spoke critically of what the Democrats are doing. 

“Progressive leadership in the House has been an unmitigated disaster,” Uygur said. “They’ve rallied around conservative Democrats more than they’ve stuck together as progressives.”
