Vasectomies at Puberty Proposes Democrat Rep

A Representative from the Democratic Party in Oklahoma has responded to his state’s new abortion bill that would ban abortion from the moment of conception. His idea, that of male vasectomies, has been floated a lot on social media since the leaking of the draft opinion from the Supreme Court that suggests it may be about to overturn Roe v. Wade.

According to Democrat Representative Mikey Dollens, House Bill 4327 would ban abortion as soon as a sperm meets an egg. He recently Tweeted: “HB4327 allows people to sue doctors for performing an abortion and defines life at the moment of “fertilization.” Here’s an idea: mandatory vasectomies – if signed into law would be the first Oklahoma statute to control the male reproductive system. No more unwanted pregnancies.”

He went on: “One of my fellow legislators plans to introduce a bill, HB4327, that would define life as the moment of fertilization, making it a homicide to abort even a small cluster of cells. 1/3”

“What if we take it further and mandate that every male has to have a vasectomy until they are deemed financially and emotionally responsible? Or call the use of condoms premeditated murder? 2/3”

During a debate Friday on HB 4327, Dollens said: “I would invite you to co-author a bill that I’m considering next year that would mandate that each male when they reach puberty get a mandatory vasectomy that’s only reversible when they reach the point of financial and emotional stability. If you think that’s crazy, then I think that maybe you understand how 50 percent of Oklahomans feel as well,” reported the Daily Wire.

Dollens has an interesting idea, in light of what seems to be the impending reversal of Roe v. Wade. Abortion would be either much more tightly regulated, or completely outlawed, in many states if Roe is overturned. Who bears responsibility if a woman becomes pregnant?
