In March, Lia Thomas became the first transgender woman to win an NCAA swimming championship. This was quite controversial, as many people believe Thomas had an unfair advantage.
Indiana Republicans drafted a bill that would ban transgender females from competing in girl’s school sports. Their Republican Governor, Eric Holcomb, vetoed the bill. According to NPR, Holcomb was “unconvinced by supporters’ arguments that there is an existing problem in K-12 sports in Indiana that requires the government to get involved and that there is a lack of fairness in female sports.”
The Associated Press Tweeted in March: “Indiana’s Republican governor has vetoed a bill banning transgender females from participating in girls school sports. The advancement of similar legislation has become a conservative cause across the U.S.”
Now, the Indiana lawmakers have overridden Governor Holcomb’s veto, and passed their law. According to the Huffington Post, “state senators voted 32-15 in favor of overriding Gov. Eric Holcomb following the same action in a 67-28 vote by the House earlier in the day.”
In typical liberal fashion, the ACLU of Indiana says it will file suit to stop what it calls the “hateful legislation,” reports the Huffington Post. They think the law is unfair to transgender people.

The problem with that argument is, what about “cisgender” people? For anyone unaware, cisgender means “denoting or relating to a person whose sense of personal identity and gender corresponds with their birth sex.” These people train and work hard at their sport. Without such a law as Indiana’s, these females are forced to compete against athletes that were born in male bodies. And that is unfair. What do you think of Indiana’s law?
