Elon Musk Gives Ultimatum To Tesla Staff: “Pretend to work somewhere else”

Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk asked employees to return to the office or be let go from the company. He gave the ultimatum according to an email sent to employees on Tuesday. The email was witnessed and reported on by Reuters.

“They should pretend to work somewhere else,” Elon Musk responded on Twitter to @wholemarsblog who posted the email dated May 31, 2022.

“Everyone at Tesla is required to spend a minimum of 40 hours in the office per week,” the email from Musk read. “If you don’t show up, we will assume you have resigned.”

“Anyone who wishes to do remote work must be in the office for a minimum (and I mean ‘minimum’) of 40 hours per week or depart Tesla. This is less than we ask of factory workers,” it continued.

“Moreover, the ‘office’ must be a main Tesla office, not a remote branch office unrelated to the job duties, for example, being responsible for Fremont factory human relations, but having your office be in another state,” finished the memo.

Elon Musk Reveals Stance On 2nd Amendment After Uvalde School Shooting

Reuters confirmed the authenticity of the email with two of their sources in Tesla. Although, corporate Tesla has not responded to a request for comment from media at this time.

During the pandemic, Tesla said that employees would need to show up to work or be fired after previously saying that they could stay home. The switch up angered some at the time.

According to Business Insider, Musk has these 8 strange rules that he likes his staff to follow.

  1. He thinks large meetings are a waste of time.
  2. Meetings are generally only needed if something is urgent.
  3. Leave meetings that you don’t need to be in.
  4. Don’t use confusing jargon.
  5. Don’t let hierarchy kill efficiency.
  6. If you need to talk to someone, do it directly.
  7. Don’t follow silly rules.
  8. Don’t leak anything to the press.

Many work from home advocates point to a study that advocates for working less in the office and points out that “77% of those who work remotely at least a few times per month show increased productivity.” Musk obviously doesn’t subscribe to that belief.

Do you think that Musk is right and people should come back to work at the office or be fired?

  • It is obvious that Elon had to escape his homeworld to Free both himself & his new employees of the old stiff antiquated rules in his original birth place. It appears that Elon has upped the efficiency & now outstripped production in the old guard. If he returns to his homeworld in the new shiny spaceship the Earthlings built for him ; he'll be greeted as a returning King !
