The crowd erupted in boos quickly after Stein’s comments and he was quickly escorted out of the event. Watch the full exchange next.

Stein was referencing Beto’s outburst in front of Texas Governor Greg Abbott at a press event after the shooting in Uvalde, Texas. At the time, he accused the governor of “doing nothing” and asked for gun control measures to be put in place. Several lawmakers in attendance started shouting insults at O’Rourke for the stunt. People on Twitter quickly came to Stein’s support for his activism with one Twitter user writing, “Alex Stein confronts a Beta!”

O’Rourke has previously gotten heat for writing his own “fantasy” about murdering children during his teenage years, according to Fox.

“One day, as I was driving home from work, I noticed two children crossing the street. They were happy, happy to be free from their troubles. … This happiness was mine by right. I had earned it in my dreams, As I neared the young ones, I put all my weight on my right foot, keeping the accelerator pedal on the floor until I heard the crashing of the two children on the hood, and then the sharp cry of pain from one of the two. I was so fascinated for a moment, that when after I had stopped my vehicle, I just sat in a daze, sweet visions filling my head.”

O’Rourke is challenging Abbott in the 2022 gubernatorial election. A poll done earlier in May showed him trailing the incumbent governor by 7 points.
