The woke believe that children are able to decide what gender they want to be.  Of course, that is nonsense.  There are good reasons that we make people wait until they are 18, and in some cases 21, before they do some things:  they are simply not mature enough.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis doesn’t think children are mature enough to make such a life altering decision as what gender they will be. For that reason, his Surgeon General, Joseph Lapado, M.D., PhD, has written a letter to the state Florida Board of Medicine regarding medical interventions such as pubery blocker, cross-sex hormones and surgeries, saying they are not well-studied, as well as “complex and irreversible,”, reports Yahoo! News. 

Dr. Lapado wrote, in part, “While some professional organizations, such as the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Endocrine Society, recommend these treatments for ‘gender affirming’ care, the scientific evidence supporting these complex medical interventions is extraordinarily weak. The current standards set by numerous professional organizations appear to follow a preferred political ideology instead of the highest level of generally accepted medical science. Florida must do more to protect children from politics-based medicine.”

Additionally, the Florida Health Department  issued a report “to justify banning Medicaid coverage for transgender people of any age who want puberty blockers, hormone therapies or gender-reassignment surgery,” reports Yahoo! News.

DeSantis isn’t messing around.  Yahoo! News reports that “By having Ladapo ask the Florida Board of Medicine to take executive action, DeSantis’ administration essentially bypasses the Legislature and speeds the process of enacting a ban on transition-related care. The Florida Board of Medicine has a 12-member board of physicians who are technically independent of the state but are appointed by the governor and confirmed by the state Senate.”

Allowing children to medically change their gender before their brains are even fully developed enough to make those kinds of decisions is crazy and should be banned everywhere.  It simply does not make sense, but when do the “woke” ever make sense?  Would you let your minor child make such an important decision?
