The whole thing began when Del Rio, who serves as Defensive Coordinator for the Washington Commanders, tweeted in response to a news article about the upcoming January 6 hearings.

He tweeted, “Would love to understand ”the whole story” about why the summer of riots, looting, burning and the destruction of personal property is never discussed but this is ??? #CommonSense.”

It wasn’t long before the left came after him, trying to smear him as a racist for comparing the two. However the coach held a press conference on Wednesday where he doubled down on his criticisms.

Speaking to a room full of reporters, Del Rio began, “I’m just expressing myself, and I think we all as Americans have a right to express ourselves, especially if you’re being respectful. I just asked a simple question, really – let’s get right down to it.”

He then pointed out that there was a significant amount more violence during the BLM riots than the Capitol riot, noting that nothing even was really damaged that bad on January 6.

“Why are we not looking into those things? Because it’s kind of hard for me to say, I can realistically look at it, I can look at images on the TV, people’s livelihoods are being destroyed, businesses are being burned down, no problem. And then we have a dustup at the Capitol, nothing burned down, and we’re going to make that a major deal.”

The coach noted that holding a hearing for January 6 while praising the BLM rioter was the epitome of a double standard. He said, “I just think it’s kind of two standards, and if we apply the same standard and we’re going to be reasonable with each other, let’s have a discussion. That’s all it was. Let’s have a discussion. We’re Americans. Let’s talk it through.”

When questioned if he was worried about offending any of his Black players, Del Rio said January 6 wasn’t about race and that he wouldn’t post something he wasn’t comfortable saying in front of his team anyways.

A review by the Associated Press of 300 federal cases stemming from over 10,000 arrests during the BLM riots found that dozens of the protesters were charged with and/or convicted of serious crimes.

By comparison, 861 arrests have been made in relation to the storming of the US Capitol building.

The left tried to make a big deal out of this incident but coach Jack Del Rio stood his ground and his team stood behind his right to express his opinion. How does it make you feel seeing a major sports figure survive an attack from the left so easily? Is cancel culture finally over?
