Former President Donald Trump’s own Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos is releasing a new book where she claims she tried to invoke the 25th Amendment.
DeVos, who was one of the longest-serving members of Trump’s cabinet, is currently touring to promote her new book “Hostages No More: The Fight for Education Freedom and the Future of the American Child,” which comes out June 21.
According to an excerpt from the book, DeVos tried to convince Vice President Mike Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment following the storming of the US Capitol building on January 6th. The former Education Secretary says Pence refused to do that to Trump, leading to her decision to resign.
“I spoke with the vice president and just let him know I was there to do whatever he wanted and needed me to do or help with, and he made it very clear that he was not going to go in that direction or that path.”
Betsy DeVos, who is the sister of Blackwater founder Eric Prince, seemingly doubled down on her assertion during an interview with USA Today‘s Ingrid Jacquez while pushing her book.
“It was a bridge too far when he turned his back on his Vice President,” she told the reporter. “My job in Washington was done. I could do no more.”
The head of the US Department of Education was the second top-level Trump Cabinet official to resign on January 7th, just 12 days before the end of Trump’s term. She followed Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao, another one of his longest serving Cabinet members and the wife of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.
It seems likely that the release of the book was timed to sync up with both the January 6th Committee hearings and the upcoming November elections. Do you think anyone cares enough to buy a Trump exposé book anymore? What do you think of Betsy DeVos?
