Pelosi Postpones Vote Providing Security For Supreme Court Justices

On Wednesday, House Democrats blocked a bill to give more security to Supreme Court justices and their families. This comes right after a failed assassination attempt against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

“This passed unanimously in the Senate, yet Speaker Pelosi refuses to bring it up for a vote—despite today’s foiled plot to kill Justice Kavanaugh. Shameful.” House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA) said Wednesday.

On Thursday, Pelosi responded to the attack and told reporters her reasons behind postponing the vote.

Nancy Pelosi has postponed the passing of the bill to protect the Supreme Court for almost a month.

“We had hoped that we could do it today but we certainly will do it at the beginning of next week,” Pelosi said.

The bill passed the Senate with ease but has since stalled in the house. The necessity of the bill was exacerbated when an armed man, named Nick Roske, was arrested outside Kavanaugh’s home in Maryland in a failed assassination attempt.

On Thursday, Senate Judiciary Chairman Dick Durbin echoed the speaker and said that the House is “ready to move” in passing the legislation.

“We’re ready to meet with them and resolve our differences,” said Durbin in conclusion. “What happened this week with Justice Kavanaugh is a reminder that we live in a dangerous place, and these people are vulnerable and we should protect them.”

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has been critical of the House for not putting the bill on the floor and has called it a “dangerous dereliction of duty.” He went so far as to address the Senate floor and demand that Democrats pass it.

“Inexplicably, this urgent and uncontroversial bill has been sitting on Speaker Pelosi’s desk ever since,” McConnell said. “The same House Democrats whose irresponsible rhetoric has contributed to this dangerous climate are themselves blocking added security for the judges and their spouses and their children.”

The bill in question passed the Senate on May 9, and it has been nearly a month since that the House refused to bring it to the floor for a vote.

Last month, the US Department of Homeland Security released a memo alerting Americans of an increase in violent threats towards members of the Supreme Court.

On Wednesday morning, an armed man, Roske, was arrested near Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s house in Chevy Chase, Maryland outside of Washington D.C. He lives there with his wife and two children. Federal Marshals are currently protecting the house.

It’s becoming more and more apparent that SCOTUS Justices are in danger, and yet the Democrat-led House is not doing anything to protect them. Why do you think that is?
