US Senator Bernie Sanders spoke out against his own party’s election chances, warning them they are on track to lose.
During a new interview with Politico, Senator Sanders warned his fellow Democrats, “You really can’t win an election with a bumper sticker that says: ‘Well, we can’t do much, but the other side is worse.'”
The Republicans stand an excellent chance of gaining control of the House and quite possibly the Senate,” He warned that, while abortion and guns may be hot topics, Democrats are wrong if they “think that they’re gonna march to victory based on those issues, I think that that is not correct.”
The former presidential contender then said Biden needs to stop trying to paint his term as successful and instead be honest that he can’t get anything done in the current Congress.
“Say to the American people: ‘Look, we don’t have the votes to do it right now. We have two corporate Democrats who are not going to be with us,'” the Socialist Senator declared. “The leadership has got to go out and say we don’t have the votes to pass anything significant right now. Sorry. You got 48 votes. And we need more to pass it. That should be the message of this campaign.”
The two “corporate Democrats” that Sanders was referring to are Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Krysten Sinema (D-AZ). He blamed the two of them for killing off Biden’s legislative goals early and leading to an overall breakdown in the party.
“Two corporate Democrats, Sens. Manchin and Sen. Sinema, sabotaged [Build Back Better]. And it has been downhill ever since for the Democratic Party,” Sanders said.
Despite Sander’s plan for new messaging, Biden has continued to push a narrative of his own success in office, claiming the economy has never been stronger and bragging about a low unemployment percentage, even though many people are removing themselves from the employment marketplace all together.
Sanders has made several impressive runs for President in the past, almost beating sitting President Joe Biden for the 2020 Democrat nomination. Do you think he is planning another run next year? Does he stand a chance?
