The Republican Governor of Arkansas came forward over the weekend to say that Donald Trump should be held responsible for the riot at Capitol Hill on January 6, 2021.
Governor Asa Hutchins, who has clashed with the former President multiple times over the election, made an appearance on FOX News Sunday to push his version of the narrative.
The Governor told host Brett Baier that he believed Trump has responsibility for the riot while suggesting the committee may be overstating what they have on him when it comes to criminal charges.
“You can make the case, and I would agree, that he’s politically and morally responsible for much of what has happened,” the governor said. “But in terms of criminal liability, I think the committee has a long way to go before they could establish that.”
Hutchinson made it clear that he was not relying on the Democrat-led January 6th Committee to deal with Trump. He believes it is the duty of the Republican party and their voters to move away from the former President following the last election.
“I hope we move in a different direction. I believe that what happened on January 6 is a lot at his feet. It was wrong for our country, and for him to continue to push that theory – I agree, is the wrong direction for the Republican Party,” Hutchinson said.
He continued, “I think Republicans need to do a lot of soul searching as to – what is the right thing here? What is the right thing to say for our party and our democracy and our future?”
Governor Asa Hutchinson frequently butted heads with the former President, especially after Biden won the state over Trump with a mere 10,000 votes, or 0.3%. Trump has disputed this razor-thin margin, while Hutchins defends the count.
Do you think Governor Hutchins really believes Trump is responsible for January 6? Or is he just trying to resurrect his own Presidential ambitions but needs Trump out of the picture to do so?
