Ron DeSantis responded to Elon Musk’s endorsement of his potential 2024 presidential run during a press conference in Madeira Beach on Wednesday.
This morning Tesla CEO Elon Musk tweeted that he voted for his first Republican, Mayra Flores, who won a Congressional seat during a Special Election in Texas. He was quickly prompted by his supporters in the comments, including one thread about his choice for President.
While Musk initially said he was still unsure, when asked if he was leaning towards any particular candidates for office, he named Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
DeSantis was speaking to the press on Wednesday when one of the reporters in the audience asked him about the soft endorsement from Musk. The Governor, who is currently running for reelection in Florida, cleverly responded, “I’m focused on 2022, but I welcome support from African Americans.”
Ron DeSantis was referring to Elon Musk’s South African heritage. Musk was born and raised in Pretoria, South Africa before moving to Canada for College before transferring to a college in the United States.
Governor DeSantis is often named as a potential challenger for Donald Trump, seen as capable of carrying more independent votes than the former President. Still, he has made no indication of whether or not he will stand against Trump if he runs again in 2024.
Ron DeSantis has gained a significant amount of popularity since standing up to the federal government during the Coronavirus pandemic. It seems likely that he could defeat Joe Biden if he runs against him in the next presidential election. Would you like to see DeSantis run for the Oval Office? Would you be willing to vote for him over former President Trump?
