No Decision Yet From Supreme Court On Abortion Rights

People on both sides of the debate over abortion rights have been waiting since early May to see if the Supreme Court of the United States is going to overturn Roe v. Wade. Protestors have been gathering in front of the Supreme Court all week, expecting the decision. It still hasn’t been released.

There was a lot of speculation that Wednesday, June 15, 2022, would be the day that the Supreme Court would release its official ruling in the case of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. The high court’s term begins in October and it usually releases its decisions for that term in mid June or early July.

The Justices did release a few decisions on June 15, but not its decision in Dobbs. The decisions it did release were in  the cases of American Hospital Assn. v. BecerraGeorge v. McDonoughYsleta del Sur Pueblo v. TexasGolan v. SaadaViking River Cruises, Inc. v. Moriana, and Arizona v. City and County of San Francisco, reports Fox News. There are less than 20 cases left to be decided before the term ends. One of them, of course, is Dobbs v Jackson Women’s Health Organization and that one could decide the fate of Roe.

All Supreme Court decisions are important, but none have garnered more attention than Dobbs v Jackson Women’s Health Organization, after a draft opinion on the case was leaked by an as yet unknown person. Justice Alito drafted the opinion, and the leaked version stated that “Roe was egregiously wrong from the start. We hold that Roe and Casey must be overruled.” Four other justices besides Alito were in the majority on that draft opinion. They were Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett. Every one of them were nominated by Republicans.

A lot has happened since the opinion was leaked. Liberals have been protesting in front of the homes of the Justices, and there was even an assassination attempt on Justice Kavanaugh. Conservatives have been relatively quiet, focusing instead on trying to figure out who leaked the opinion. What do you think the Supreme Court’s decision will be?
