California Governor Gavin Newsom announced on Thursday that he had joined former President Trump’s Truth Social network.
Newsom tweeted about his new profile, claiming he had made the new account to “call out Republican lies.”
“I just joined Trump’s Truth Social. Going to be on there calling out Republican lies. This could get…interesting. My first post — breaking down America’s red state murder problem,” the tweet read.
The Governor of California also posted his first “truth” on the platform. In it, Newsom tries to reverse attacks citing increased crime in blue cities and put the onus on the increased murder rates in red states
He said “we’re all here searching for Truth but the truth is I have not been able to find a simple explanation for the fact that we have a red state murder problem.”
Newsom then references a study from left-wing think tank Third Way that claimed that 8 out of 10 of the states with the highest murder rates also have voted for Republican presidential candidates for over a century.
To try and pin the issue on Republican leadership, Newsom suggests looking into the laws “that are leading to such carnage.”
“So the simple question is, what are the laws and policies in those states that are leading to such carnage?” the governor asks.
While Gavin Newsom joining the network may be part of a political stunt, it may also be a boon to the startup platform. His new account could lead other high profile Democrats to join Truth Social, which has struggled to gain significant traction since its launch earlier this year.
Governor Newsom and his fellow Democrat governors have been frequently criticized for crime spikes in their states led by crime strengthening policies pushed by woke, ultra-liberal district attorneys around the country. Do you think the governor’s attempt to spin that on Truth Social will gain any traction? Or is he speaking to the wrong audience?
