CNN Boss Banning Anchors From Discussing “The Big Lie”

The new boss over at CNN is cracking down on their perceived liberal bent, this time banning anchors from discussing “The Big Lie”

Chris Licht, who now heads the Cable News Network after their takeover by Time Warner, determined that the network had gotten too hooked on the concept of coining the term when discussing the 2020 election.

Although “The Big Lie” will no longer be an acceptable phrase, anchors won’t be banned entirely from criticizing the former President’s actions. Instead, it is being proposed they now simply say “Trump’s election lie” or “election lie.”

The new verdict on one of CNN’s favorite terms came alongside a report from Mediaite that CNN anchors had already used the phrase 168 times in the first half of June alone.

Licht made his feelings on the term clear during a company call this week. While he expressed his disdain for its use, he made it clear the new policy was not “mandatory.”

The phrase “The Big Lie” was branding from the Democrat party to attempt to tie Trump’s claims on the 2020 election to a term used by Hitler’s propaganda chief during the Third Reich, Joseph Goebbels.

Not all of CNN’s employees are happy with the change. One CNN insider told Mediaite,

“It’s worrisome that we’re being told how to talk about one of the worst things that ever happened to American democracy. We have to call lies, lies, whether they’re small lies or big lies. Is there any lie bigger than that lie?” the insider said.

Twitter was quick to react to the monumental change in CNN policy. Some of the more interesting tweets include:

The new change follows another big change to CNN’s news terminology. Last week Chris Licht told the network that they were overusing the term “Breaking News” and would now be saving the term for only extreme situations.

Since President Trump left office, CNN has been struggling to pick up and maintain any viewership. The new leadership at the company is hoping by reducing their partisan leaning and returning a focus to news, the company can be restored. Do you think that Licht and his team will be able to revive CNN or did they dig a hole that’s just too deep to climb out of?
