Disney’s “Lightyear” Struggles At Box Office

Disney has decided to go extremely woke as of late, and it’s not necessarily working out for them. From getting into a dispute with Florida Governor DeSantis over his Parental Rights in Education bill to deciding to put out a movie (Lightyear) with a same-sex married couple who kiss onscreen, they are putting the subject of inclusion to a test.

The test isn’t working out for them where the movie is concerned. Lightyear, already banned in at least fourteen countries, had dismal opening weekend. The movie brought in somewhere between $51 an $55 million over the weekend, which sounds like a lot of money until you do some comparison. ” …[T]hree years ago, Toy Story 4 opened to $121 million. If these figures hold, Lightyear won’t do HALF that,” said Cultural critic John Nolte at Breitbart.

This tweet says it quite well: “Top Gun: Maverick has brought in almost $800 million worldwide while Lightyear bombed its opening weekend. Further proof that people want to go to the movies to be entertained; not inundated with woke propaganda.”

And here’s what some kids think: “The Buzz Lightqueer movie is being made fun of by my three boys (16, 14, 12) and their friends because none of them enjoy having the woke agenda thrown at them from everywhere.”

Nolte continued, “[a]nother thing to keep in mind is that there’s no competition. The only kiddie movie still in theaters is The Bad Guys, which opened all the way back in April. After the resounding success of Toy Story 4 and with a wide-open field at the box office, especially during the summer, especially over Father’s Day, there was never a better time to open Lightyear.”

That’s certainly true. Even with the excessive heat in many parts of the country, on Father’s Day Sunday the movie took in the least amount of money, at $14 million, reports the Daily Wire.

Noticeably absent from many negative reviews of the movie is any mention that the gay kiss is to blame for the low turnout to see the movie. Looper cites many reason in its piece titled Why Lightyear Bombed at the Box Office, including it being released at the wrong time, it having too much competition, etc., but nothing about the gay kiss and the movie being banned in 14 countries.

Chris Evans, the actor who did the voiceover for the main character Buzz Lightyear, had this to say about anyone who is opposed to the same sex couple and the gay kiss in the movie: “The real truth is, those people are idiots,” Evans told Reuters. “Every time there’s been social advancement as we wake up, the American story, the human story is one of constant social awakening and growth and that’s what makes us good.”

Find out if more, or less, Americans believe in God these days

Nice insult, Chris. How about that insult to your pocketbook, because your movie is doing terrible? The fact is, adults can do and see what they want, but many parents aren’t ready to have to explain same sex relationships to their young children. And that’s who sees animated Disney movies, by and large…young children. Have you taken your kids? Do you plan to?
