Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) said this week that the January 6th Committee hearings were being used by the Democrats to distract from their policy failures.
The prominent Republican leader blasted the Democrats for what he called a “partisan exercise”. According to Johnson, the entire point of the hearings was never to prosecute Trump but was instead to distract from Biden’s numerous policy failures.
“It’s obvious that the Democrats set this thing up to be a political exercise, obviously designed to distract the public from the major problems occurring because of their agenda, their ideology. They can’t talk about the disastrous result of their policies, so this is really the only thing they can talk about,” Johnson told The Daily Wire.
The “major problems” Democrats are facing currently involve massive, record-setting inflation, a falling market, a possible recession, and being seen as weak on supporting law enforcement. Instead they have chosen to focus on issues less popular with the public like pronouns and LGBTQ education for elementary school aged kids.
Senator Johnson also noted that the Democrats never called Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi to the stand during their hearings despite her position putting her in charge of the Capitol police at the time of the raid on the Capitol Building.
“One question they’ll never ask, one witness they’ll never call, is Nancy Pelosi,” Johnson stated. “Why were we so unprepared? Where was the security manpower? Why wasn’t it visible? Why didn’t we prevent the breach? The breach never should have happened.”
Pelosi, who claimed she was traumatized by the event, has frequently been criticized by politicians on the right for an anemic police force on the Hill that day despite the DOJ and FBI being aware of potential issues surrounding Trump’s January 6th rally.
According to the Senator, Republicans should make their sole focus taking back the Senate so they can “stop the Biden agenda that is destroying our country, and do anything [we] possibly can as a legislature to end his destructive agenda.”
