Demonstrators wearing pink and holding picket signs rallied at the Wisconsin State Capitol building this morning during a special legislative session aimed at repealing Wisconsin’s abortion ban.
The session was called by Governor Tony Evers to try and win political points with his base before his reelection this year. However, Republicans in the state legislature gaveled in and gaveled out the session – refusing to overturn Wisconsin’s abortion ban.
Evers responded and posted on Twitter that Republicans “defied the people of this state and rejected my special session.”
If Roe v Wade gets overturned, abortions will be illegal in Wisconsin.
To protest the upcoming Supreme Court decision, Planned Parenthood assembled a “pink out” at the state capitol during the special session. The group also recently stopped scheduling appointments in the state after Saturday, June 25th. However, they will still be helping people with abortions.
Wisconsin Campus leader Tara Stangler kicked off a discussion about reproductive and queer rights.
“Everyone is included in ‘our’, not just white folks, not just affluent folks, it is everyone. So the minute they come for any of us, they are coming for all of us. This is not just a ‘you versus them’ this is an ‘us versus them’ and we have to stop thinking about it from an individualistic standpoint,” said Stangler.
Tanya Atkinson, the President of Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin, spoke at the event about love and its connection to the movement for more abortions.
Atkinson explained, “Love is what keeps us moving forward when we are so angry that a minority holds power, and they hoard power. Taking away the bodily agency and autonomy from millions across our nation, and right here in our state of Wisconsin. Love is what energizes us to get up after we have our moments on our knees, sobbing in pain and disbelief, because we know the irreparable harm that will be caused if abortion is not safe and legal. Abortion does not go away, it becomes unsafe. Love is what compelled us to be here today with each other to demand a different future for Wisconsin, for our friends, our families, our neighbors. Love is what gives us the courage to speak from the rooftops that everybody deserves access to abortion. Regardless of their reason, or their race, or their gender, or their sexual orientation, or their income level, or their immigration status.”
Atkinson clarified that Planned Parenthood will continue to help people get abortions after the Supreme Court decision by telling them about resources in nearby states and they’ll also be giving out pregnancy kits that include contraception, condoms, and pregnancy tests.

“We have relationships with the other states. We can help provide care on the front end, we can help people navigate to other states and access a safe and legal abortion. And we can be here for the people of Wisconsin who need an abortion when they come back home again. So, we really encourage people—if you need an abortion—to please reach out to Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin, and we can help you,” she stated.
The “pink out” happened during a special session at the state legislature and shows how much liberals are going to protest if Roe v. Wade is overturned. They are going to continue to pressure state legislatures and use it as a tool to try and win elections. Sadly for them, people just don’t care that much right now – especially when faced with the financial woes brought about by Democrats in power. Are you glad that Supreme Court is going to overturn their abortion decision or not? Let us know your thoughts.
