30 Democrats Demand More Police Funding From Pelosi

A group of 30 House Democrats banded together to push their party to vote on new legislation to provide funding for police.

The pro-police Dems sent a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, demanding that she take up their bill to “refund” police following the “Defund to Police” movement.

The letter to Pelosi read, “Members should have the opportunity to show our constituents that we are addressing crime in our communities. We are also asking that you please meet with us next week to discuss the need to invest in law enforcement to make our communities safer from criminals.”

The letter also asked the Speaker to not attach the pro-police funding bills to the upcoming fiscal year 2023 appropriations bill. Their goal is to give Democrats a chance to attach their names to actual pro-law enforcement legislation and prove that they, as a party, do support police officers.

They specifically criticized the Democrat lead House Judiciary Committee, which they said “has made clear to several members that it has no intention of bringing any law enforcement bills through the markup process.”

To make it clear how important their new legislation was to their chances of winning elections going forward, they noted how their constituents feel about crime recent levels, “As we have over the last two years, we continue to hear from our constituents who are extremely concerned about the rising level of crime in the country, and about the importance of enforcing laws already on the books.”

Despite their claims, not everyone is buying their intentions.

This bill would certainly be a big change of pace for a party that has recently become known for soft on crime DAs and reducing police forces. Some have even called for abolishing the police altogether. Do you think Pelosi will heed their warning and support pro-cop legislation?
