“I Will Do the Campaigning Myself” Dem Congresswoman Dumps Biden

Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger (D-VA) shot down the proposition of campaigning alongside President Joe Biden in the 2022 election.

Rep Spanberger sat down with FOX News’s Dana Perino on Tuesday when she was asked about her upcoming race for Virginia’s 7th congressional district. According to Perino, her race is considered a toss-up despite her being an incumbent. She asked if Spanberger would use Biden to try and bolster her chances.

“According to the Cook Political Report, it is a toss-up, a Democratic toss-up, D-plus-one district now is what they are calling it,” said Perino. “You know, I wonder as you look across the board, do you think you will have President Biden come and campaign with you in that district?”

Not deterred by the gatcha-style-question, the Congresswoman revealed that she would reject any campaign help from the sitting President, despite him leading her party.

“I intend to do the campaigning myself. I am the candidate. It is my name on the ballot. Certainly when I first ran, I ran in an R-plus-seven district. And I won in that seat by getting out, speaking to voters, making sure that they know who I am and what it is that I intended to do for them,” Spanberger said.

The Congresswoman even tried to smooth over the Biden issue by saying she had been successful at passing legislation under Trump as well.

The Virginia politician is no stranger to criticizing her own party. She famously blasted Pelosi and her fellow Democrats over their failure to win more seats in the 2020 election, saying on a party phone call, “No one should say ‘defund the police’ ever again. Nobody should be talking about socialism” before saying their rhetoric would see the Democrat party “f***ing torn apart.”

Spanberger represents a swing district at a point in time where the President of the United States sits below a 40% approval rating. She is likely aware that Biden serves more as an anchor around her party’s neck than a float to lift them up. Do you think more Dems will follow suit and reject Biden’s campaign assistance?
