Bison Gores Woman Near Yellowstone National Park Trailhead

Video shows a Bison attack that happened earlier in 2022 where a woman approached within three feet from a bison.

A 71-year-old woman from Westchester, Pennsylvania was gored by a bison at Yellowstone National Park. She is now the third person that bison have attacked in the park in 2022. Just this Monday, there was another attack near Old Faithful captured on video seen below.

According to Park officials, the woman and her daughter were visiting Storm Point near Yellowstone Lake on Wednesday. While walking back to their vehicle, they accidentally startled a bison. The large animal then charged them. There is no video footage of this bison attack at this time.

The woman is okay and recovering in the West Park Hospital in Cody, Wyoming. She thankfully sustained non-life threatening injuries, but the trauma from the event will last a lifetime.

Yellowstone authorities advise people to stay 25 yards away from bison and to give them a lot of space near campsites, trails and boardwalks. If the animals feel threatened, they will begin to paw the ground and snort to warn people they are too close. It is not advised to hold your ground against a Bison but to run away.

“Though bison are generally more intent on grazing, mother bison are extremely protective of their calves in spring and bulls can be more aggressive in July and August during the rut when they are competing for the attention of females,” said the bison program manager for the World Wildlife Fund Dennis Jorgensen to ABC News.

“Bison have injured more people in Yellowstone than any other animal,” warns the Park’s website. “Bison are unpredictable and can run three times faster than humans.”

There have been two other bison attacks this year: a 34 year old man was attacked while walking near Giant Geyser at Old Faithful and a 25-year-old woman was chased down after approaching one near Black Sand Basin.

Talk about frightening. Could you imagine having a multi-ton animal charging you? Bison are some of the most majestic and frightening American animals. It is good that they are coming back from almost being extinct, but people should be careful around them. How would you react if you saw one of these things charging at you?
