Wyoming Congresswoman Liz Cheyney (R) hinted at a possible run for the White House in 2024 during a recent interview.

Cheyney, who is currently running for reelection in the House or Representatives, joined ABC News’ “This Week” with Jonathan Karl to discuss the potential bid.

When Karl asked the anti-Trump representative about her future plans, Cheyney gave a vague answer with one clear intent – she was not ruling a run for POTUS out.

“I’ll make a decision about ’24 down the road,” Cheney said.

She then added how her potential run would be less focused on winning than it would be “doing the right thing”, presumably opposing former President Trump’s own reelection bid.

“I think about it less in terms of a decision about running for office, and more in terms of, you know, as an American – and as somebody who’s in a position of public trust now, how do I make sure that I’m doing everything I can to do the right thing; to do what I know is right for the country, and, and to protect our Constitution,” she said.

Liz Cheyney was formerly one of the most powerful Republicans in the party, serving as Chairwoman of the caucus. She was removed after voting to impeach former President Trump over the January 6th riots. Since then, she has doubled down on that stance, even joining the January 6th investigative committee despite her party leadership ordering everyone to abstain.

Cheyney previously hinted at a potential run for the White House shortly after she was ousted from her chairwoman position, telling the New York Times: “The party is going to come back stronger, and I’m going to lead the effort to do it.”

Despite the plans for a presidential run, Cheyney is currently facing a tough battle for reelection of her current seat. Her opponent Hageman, who has been endorsed by ex-President Trump, is beating Cheyney 56 to 28, a 28 point lead.

Based on her performance and the general direction of the Republican party, it seems unlikely that the Congresswoman would stand a chance against leading candidates like Trump and Ron DeSantis. Do you think she would even run as a Republican at this point? Could she win as a Democrat?
