Gov. Greg Abbott Empowers Sate Authorities To Arrest Migrants At The Border

On Thursday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott gave state authorities the ability to begin arresting migrants at the border. This will cause an eventual clash between the state and the federal government on who can enforce immigration law.

Abbott quickly spoke on Fox Business the day of.

Abbott invoked Article IV Section 4 of the US Constitution known as the “Invasion Clause” allowing state law enforcement to arrest migrants and drop them off at border checkpoints.

Texas GOP Rep. Jodey Arrington said the move was necessary because President Biden has done nothing to stop the border crisis and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has just been tasked with covering it up for him.

“While President Biden refuses to do his job and enforce the immigration laws enacted by Congress, the State of Texas is once again stepping up and taking unprecedented action to protect Americans and secure our southern border,” Abbott said in a statement.

The invasion clause says that the federal governor guarantee’s “every state in this Union a republican form of government and shall protect each of them against invasion.”

With this move, Abbot will be testing the legal limits of what he can do as Governor against the federal government. He currently has National Guard troops near border crossing points. The state has allocated $4 billion to border security to make it happen.

It continues along the lines of his Operation Lone Star, which provides money to border cities so they can strengthen their own border security.

Just over a month ago, a line of 150 illegal immigrants was spotted swimming across the Rio Grande into Eagle Pass, Texas. The footage was captured by Fox News’ Bill Melugin.

“BREAKING: Another group of approximately 150 is crossing illegally into Eagle Pass, TX right now. You can see one of their smugglers wading back to Mexico. Like clockwork, this is the fifth day in a row we have seen a group of this size cross here in late AM hours,” wrote Bill Melugin for Fox News.

This is a huge step in states standing up to the Biden and fighting for our right to protect our border. What do you honestly think of Abbott? Do you think he is doing a good job as Texas’ governor? How would you rate his performance on a scale from 1-10 with 10 being the highest?
