Elon Musk’s SpaceX Rocket Test Explodes

Elon Musk has been in the news a lot over the last few months. Usually, it’s regarding his purchase of Twitter, which at last report was off. This time, however, it’s about one of his other enterprises: SpaceX.

Elon Musk has a lot more going on other than just Twitter. He also owns a company called SpaceX. SpaceX is the maker of Starship and a private space company known for its International Space Station missions.

Musk has had some success with his space company. As of mid-2022, it is the only commercial spaceflight company capable of sending astronauts to space.

However, an explosion took place on the launch pad during a test of a massive SpaceX rocket prototype on Monday. Take a look:

In characteristic form, Elon Musk tweeted about it, saying “Yeah, actually not good. Team is assessing damage.”

“The rocket, an early version of the vehicle SpaceX is calling Starship, could be seen lighting its engines as it remained anchored to its South Texas launch pad,” reported CNN Business. They continued, “[t]hen, a blaze of uncontrolled flames erupted from the engines, followed by plumes of gray smoke. After the smoke cleared, no visible signs of external damage could be seen[.]”

Musk also tweeted about what he thought went wrong that led to the explosion: “Cryogenic fuel is an added challenge, as it evaporates to create fuel-air explosion risk in a partially oxygen atmosphere like Earth. That said, we have a lot of sensors to detect this. More later.”

Rage Against the Machine Wants to Abort the Supreme Court

When you’re dealing with things like rocket ships, you can’t expect things to always go right. Of course, Starship is Musk’s baby, which he hopes to get to Mars someday, so it must have disappointed him. Do you think he will get us to Mars?
