“It was insane:” Whale Lands On Boat Off Coast Of Massachusetts

On Sunday, a humpback whale breached and then landed on a 19-foot boat near the coast of Plymouth, Massachusetts near White Horse Beach, says NBC10.

“All of a sudden, full breach, 10 feet out of the water, slams on top of this guy’s boat, like his bow goes down, basically, into the water, engine out, full thing pops off, whale rolls over the side of it, totally fine, but his boat was messed up,” a witness named Ryder Parkhurst told the press.

“It was insane, the guy was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, that’s all. Pops up, bang … right on the bow of the guy’s boat.”

Plymouth Harbormaster Chad Hunter was interviewed and said, “This could have been much worse for all involved. Children like to lean over the side of the boat to watch the fish so it is very lucky that nobody got hurt here. An incident like this is pretty rare but very dangerous to boaters.”

“They’ve been out there for the last three days continuously so there’s a lot of whales, but they’re also attracting a lot of boaters, which creates a problem obviously after today,” said boater Chris Grant. “They’re beautiful creatures but you know, you gotta keep their distance, they are still animals, you know?”

Here’s another angle of the gentle giant landing on the boat.

The local harbormaster said that many boats were in the area on Sunday for fishing because of an abundance of bait fish. Unfortunately, for the boat that got crushed, that’s why the whales were there too.

“They’ve been out there for the last three days continuously so there’s a lot of whales, but they’re also attracting a lot of boaters, which creates a problem obviously after today,” a regular boater Chris Grant said. “They’re beautiful creatures but you know, you gotta keep their distance, they are still animals you know?”

There were crowds on the beach to watch the whales that when it happened.

“I love whales,” 9-year-old Daniel Morse said NBC Boston. “The three things I love are music, video games and whales.”

Could you imagine if you saw this in real life? How scary is that seeing a multi-ton animal just jumping out of the water and crushing a boat. It just goes to show you that anything can happen at any time. Have you ever been up close to tone of the majestic gentle giants?
