There seems to be a lot going around in Washington, D.C. Joe Biden tested positive for Covid-19 last week and now someone in the Senate has it. It makes you wonder, who will be next?

On Monday, Joe Manchin, the Democrat Senator from West Virginia, tested positive for Covid-19. He says he is fully vaccinated and boosted and is experiencing only mild symptoms.

Manchin said in a statement, “[t]his morning I tested positive for COVID-19. I am fully vaccinated and boosted and am experiencing mild symptoms. I will isolate and follow CDC guidelines as I continue to work remotely to serve West Virginians.”

There is speculation that the recent uptick in positive covid tests in Congress could affect how much they can get done before the August recess. There are three Dems out with Covid and maybe more to come, with as contagious as the current variant is. The reconciliation package that Senator Manchin helped with that includes prescription drug pricing and Obamacare subsidies could be in jeopardy. Additionally, there’s been a recent push to codify same-sex marriage. The Democrats need ten Republicans to get that through and everyone needs to stay healthy.

Regarding the President and his battle with covid, the most recent news from Biden’s physician, Dr. Kevin C. O’Connor, is this: “His voice remains deep. His pulse, blood pressure, respiratory rate and temperature remain entirely normal. His oxygen saturation continues to be excellent on room air. His lungs remain clear.”

It sounds like at least Biden and Manchin have been able to continue working through their recent illness, but if things start to spread even faster or others become sicker, it could make it difficult to make things happen there in D.C.
