On Thursday, flash flooding left the Las Vegas valley looking something out of a Hollywood disaster movie after waters got into some of the casinos in downtown area, said News 3 Las Vegas.
The iconic city saw damage to some of the casinos and parking areas including high wind damaged roofs and drains seen overflowing with inches of water. The press was calling it a monsoon storm that dumped rain across the valley. Winds got up to 59 mph as seen in the Harry Reid International Airport. Some parts of Vegas reported receiving more than an inch of rainfall. It’s typical in the western city to rain only on certain parts of the valley but not in others.
The National Weather Service sent out a flash flood warning in response to it lasting until 10:45 PM and videos show the flood waters gushing into the Circa Resort and Casino and raining pouring through the ceiling at the Caesars Palace, said Fox Weather.
“Water depths in Las Vegas Wash and Flamingo Wash near Nellis continue to rise,” the Clark County regional flood control wrote on Twitter. “Stay away from flood channels and let them do their jobs tonight. #befloodsafe #wateralwayswins.”
The entire southwestern United States will continue to receive monsoon-like rains over the next couple of days – especially in New Mexico and Arizona.
Water were seen coming through the screens at the brand new Circa hotel in Downtown Las Vegas.
Planet Hollywood saw flooding come through the ceiling and spill out onto the casino floor.
Las Vegas typically only gets 4 inches of rain a year.
To anyone out west, please stay safe and out of any potential areas of flooding. We have recently witnessed the floodwaters tear through Kentucky and other states. Vegas will get back on its feet from this very quickly because they don’t want to miss out on the tourist dollars this weekend. Have you ever seen anything like that in Las Vegas, one of the most arid cities in the country?
