Pelosi’s Taiwan Trip Prompts US Lawmakers to Make Unannounced Visit

As you all may know, House Leader Nancy Pelosi recently visited Taiwan in what was seen as a snub to Beijing – which doesn’t seem too happy about it. This has prompted a number of other US lawmakers to make an unannounced visit to the island nation in order to reaffirm their support. Let’s take a closer look at what’s going on.

Nancy Pelosi may have inspired more trips to Taiwan for U.S officials,

According to The Daily Wire, Five U.S. lawmakers visited Taiwan on Sunday in an unannounced visit just days after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi caused controversy with China by visiting the self-ruled island. Listen to what Pelosi had to say following the trip,

A surprise delegation was led by Sen. Ed Markey, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations East Asia, Pacific, and International Cybersecurity Subcommittee.

There were also Reps. John Garamendi, Alan Lowenthal, and Don Beyer, plus Republican Rep. Amata Radewagen.

The visit comes after Markey reaffirmed the U.S.-South Korean alliance in South Korea. In South Korea earlier Sunday, Markey met with South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol and other national leaders before flying to Taiwan to join the other lawmakers.

Pelosi’s controversial trip to Taiwan just 12 days ago led to the American delegation going to Taiwan. After she left, Chinese officials retaliated with military tests near Taiwan.

On Saturday, the Chinese government simulated an island invasion as part of its fourth straight day of military training, according to The Daily Wire.

A Wall Street Journal report said Taiwan found 14 Chinese ships and 20 planes in the Taiwan Strait. A total of 14 planes crossed the median line and flew toward Taiwan, triggering a military response.

These trips to Taiwan may prove dangerous for the U.S,

According to Fox News, President Joe Biden has not prepared Americans for what is coming, when China may make an aggressive move against Taiwan. After the U.S. lawmakers made an unannounced visit to Taiwan, Chang said U.S.-China relations had reached “one of the most dangerous moments in history.”

Joe Biden doesn’t seem concerned with China at the moment but maybe he should be. We say we support the one China policy, but the actions of U.S lawmakers tells a different story. It may come back to bite us but we will just have to find out.
