Liz Cheney is no stranger to the political spotlight. The daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, she was first elected to Congress in 2016 and has since established herself as a leading voice within the Republican Party. However, recent admissions from multiple political strategists suggest that her 2024 presidential ambitions may be founded on shaky ground. For one thing, her support for Donald Trump during his impeachment trial has antagonized many within her own party. Additionally, her voting record on key issues like abortion and climate change is likely to alienate crucial Democratic and Independent voters in a general election. In short, it seems that Liz Cheney’s White House dreams may be over before they’ve even begun. 

As NextNewsNetwork.com previously reported, After losing her Tuesday primary to Trump-backed candidate Hariet Hageman, Liz Cheney floated a possible run for President in 2024 as her next career move. 

However, according to a couple of political strategists, Cheney is in for a rude awakening if she decides to actually run for President. 

Fox News reported that Boyd Matheson, host of “Inside Sources” for KSL NewsRadio and ex-chief of staff to Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, reacted to Cheney’s 2024 hopes by saying, “Rep. Cheney actually could have won Wyoming had she run ‘for’ the people of Wyoming rather than ‘against’ Donald Trump. ‘Against’ candidates don’t win. If Cheney runs for president, she will be a non-factor if she continues by running a backward facing, fighting the last war, battle against DJT kind of campaign. Presidential politics is never about what was, or even what is, but about what is next.”

Matheson added, “Rep. Cheney has proven she can fundraise, though it will be interesting to see what moderate Democrats and independent donors would do in an actual presidential contest,” 

FOX also reported that Lauren Claffey Tomlinson, a Republican strategist and president of Claffey Communications, suggested that messaging could resonate with some voters but that it is “highly unlikely” that Cheney could earn the GOP’s nomination for president.

Liz Cheney should save herself the embarrassment and not run for President. She’s been polling low ever since she voted to impeach President Trump, and even among Republicans, she’s become increasingly unpopular. If she does decide to run, President Trump is sure to give her some more epic nicknames while she’s on the campaign trail – adding to her titles of “Low-polling Liz Cheney” and “The Warmonger”. Seriously, though, it’s hard to see how Cheney could win the Republican nomination given her current standing in the party. She’s alienated a large portion of the base, and it’s unlikely that she would be able to make a comeback. So, for her own sake, she should probably just sit this one out.
