It’s been just over two weeks since the FBI raided President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home, and now it’s looking like the affidavit connected to the raid will be partially unsealed due in part given the intense public and historical interest in the entire event.
FOX News reported that Judge Bruce Reinhart admitted Monday that the FBI raid on former President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home was unprecedented and rejected the Justice Department’s argument to keep the affidavit leading to the search under seal, as the search was of “intense public and historical interest.”.”
In a filing Monday morning, Reinhart said he rejects “the Government’s argument that the current record justifies keeping the entire Affidavit under seal.”
“The Government argues that even requiring it to redact portions of the Affidavit that could not reveal agent identities or investigative sources and methods imposes an undue burden on its resources and sets a precedent that could be disruptive and burdensome in future cases,” Reinhart wrote. “I do not need to reach the question of whether, in some other case, these concerns could justify denying public access; they very well might.”
Reinhart’s filing is surprising considering his ties to the Democrat Party, including former President Obama and Jeffrey Epstein.
Former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi reacted to Reinhart’s surprising decision while appearing on FOX News.
As we reported last week, Judge Reinhart granted the DOJ an opportunity to propose redactions to the affidavit last week, giving the government a deadline of Thursday, Aug. 25 at noon.
Last week, Reinhart said, “On my initial careful review … there are portions of it that can be unsealed,” and added he would “give the government a full and fair opportunity” to redact the document.
He will then review the document and decide whether or not to release it if he agrees with the redactions or hold a closed meeting with the government if he disagrees.
Also, as we previously reported, Trump has called for the unsealing of the affidavit, writing on Truth Social, “There is no way to justify the unannounced RAID of Mar-a-Lago…But, in the interest of TRANSPARENCY, I call for the immediate release of the completely Unredacted Affidavit pertaining to this horrible and shocking BREAK-IN.”
