California is getting ready to cut water off for its residents during a historic drought.
With the majority of the world facing a historic drought, California is getting ready to forcibly cut water supply to its residents. This announcement comes after the state has begun rolling blackouts over a power crisis, and will continue to make California the most restrive state in the country.
Daily wire writes. According to state water authorities, California’s water use decreased 10.4% in July from two years ago.
New conservation regulations took effect in July for the first time for an entire month, such as not allowing ornamental grass to be watered.
Governor Gavin Newsom of California had asked the state to cut water use 15% in summer 2021.
Urban water suppliers provide the State Water Resources Control Board with monthly amounts, which they publish.
The drought has caused severe concerns to rise over the failing crops.
The Hill writes. California produces more than one-third of U.S. vegetables and three-quarters of domestic fruits and nuts, including $5.23 billion in grapes, $3.02 billion in strawberries and $2.03 billion in lettuce in 2021, according to the state Department of Food and Agriculture. Much of this agriculture is concentrated in the state’s Central Valley, the source of about 8 percent of the nation’s crop output, and the Salinas Valley, the source of about $1.36 billion in lettuce in 2019.
The state is facing a severe drought and it is projected that California will lose over 30% of this year’s crop yield to drought.
All over the world you hear of severe drought, and massive crop failures. It seems that we are going to be in for a rough few years.
