California Governor Gavin Newsom and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis have been going at it the last couple of weeks, but the pair’s latest feud may have ended with DeSantis getting the last laugh. Let’s dive in.
After the California governor requested the Department of Justice investigate Florida, and other states, for potential “kidnapping” crimes by flying illegal immigrants to other parts of the country, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said Gov. Gavin Newsom’s “hair gel interferes with his brain function.”
According to FOX News, DeSantis’ remarks came at a news conference Friday in Daytona Beach, just one day after Newsom sent a letter asking Attorney General Merrick Garland to investigate whether sending immigrants to destinations such as New York City, Washington, D.C. Chicago and Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts is illegal.
Newsom tried to get the last laugh, but ended up making himself look even more dumb.
After DeSantis’ hair gel comment, Newsom challenged him to a public debate before election day in November.
On Twitter, Newsom wrote, “Hey @GovRonDeSantis, clearly you’re struggling, distracted, and busy playing politics with people’s lives. Since you have only one overriding need — attention –let’s take this up & debate. I’ll bring my hair gel. You bring your hairspray. Name the time before Election Day.”
However, as the Washington Examiner reports, Newsom was quickly crushed by one of his own ex-staffers who replied to his tweet, saying, “One of the fundamental rules of politics is that the only person who demands debates is the person losing the argument.”
It may be best for Governor Newsom to put an end to his attacks for now, especially knowing that his ex-staffers, or his parents in law, won’t even back him up when he’s up against Governor DeSantis.
