When Nancy Pelosi made a surprise appearance at Global Citizen’s music festival in Central Park on Saturday, she was not well received.
According to the New York Post, a social media video shows Pelosi being booed as she took the stage for a brief speech.
Some booing was audible from the start of the House speaker’s speech about climate change and cutting carbon emissions.
Pelosi said her grandchildren Paul and Thomas were in the audience, and she had agreed to keep her remarks short in order to not delay more music.
Despite the public humiliation, Global Citizen tweeted out its thanks to Pelosi for the appearance.
“Thank you, @SpeakerPelosi for recognizing Global Citizens all around the world who took action in support of the new, historic climate legislation in the US!”
As noted by the Washington Examiner, The concert featured major acts, such as Metallica, Usher, Mariah Carey, and the Jonas Brothers.
The outlet noted that there were other awkward encounters during the festival besides the heckling of Pelosi. When Mariah Carey brought up 9/11 in another video, audience members appeared confused.
