Top Dem In Federal Custody – Sentenced to 30 Months After Confessing

A former Pennsylvania Democrat congressman has been sentenced to 30 months in prison for fraud in favor of Democratic candidates.

According to Conservative Brief, It was announced by the U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania that Michael “Ozzie” Myers pleaded guilty to conspiring to vote illegally in a federal election, falsifying voting records, bribery, obstruction of justice, and orchestrating ballot stuffing schemes in the Pennsylvania elections of 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018.

Myers served in the U.S. House from 1976 to 1980 before being expelled for bribery. After the FBI investigated him, he was sentenced to three years in prison.

According to a 2020 indictment, Myers bribed then-Philadelphia election judge Domenick J. Demuro to stuff ballots to favor certain candidates. In that year, Demuro pleaded guilty.

Here’s CBS Philly’s coverage of the news at the time.

Then, In October 2021, Myers confessed to conspiring with former Philadelphia election judge Marie Beren to commit election fraud.

And on Tuesday of this week, Myers was sentenced to 30 months in prison, three years of supervised release, and ordered to pay $100,000 in fines, with $10,000 of that due immediately.

Jacqueline Maguire, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Philadelphia Division said in a statement, “Protecting the legitimacy of elections is critical to ensuring the public’s trust in the process. Through his actions, Ozzie Myers pointedly disdained both the will of Philadelphia voters and the rule of law. He’s now a federal felon twice over, heading back behind bars, with time to consider the great consequence of free and fair elections.”
