Lori Lightfoot was humiliated this week after Tyson Foods evacuated their offices in the crime ridden city of Chicago. In a city that is already plagued with gun violence and high levels of crime, it was embarrassing for Lightfoot to have one of the world’s largest meat processing companies leave. This just adds to the list of failures by Lightfoot since she took office.
The corporate offices of Tyson Foods will be relocated to Springdale, Arkansas, from Chicago , Illinois.
The Washington Examiner reports, Approximately 1,000 corporate positions will be affected in Chicago, Downers Grove, Illinois, and Dakota Dunes, South Dakota. Early next year, a phased relocation will begin.
Tyson stated in a press release, “The move will foster closer collaboration, enhance team member agility and enable faster decision making, positioning Tyson to win with its team members, customers, and consumers.”
Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson championed the companies move on Twitter, writing, “Proud to partner with Arkansas-based @TysonFoods as they grow their corporate footprint in Northwest Arkansas. These high-paying jobs are a testament to our skilled and diverse workforce, pro-business climate, and great quality of life.”
As noted by CBS, the company joins Caterpillar, Boeing, and Citadel in relocating their offices out of Chicago.
Boeing Co. announced in May that its headquarters would be moving from Chicago to Arlington, Virginia. Following this, Caterpillar announced that its headquarters would move to Texas from the Chicago suburbs.
Ken Griffin, head of Citadel hedge fund, has been a vocal critic of Illinois’ Democratic governor and of Chicago’s crime rates. He also recently moved his company’s headquarters to Miami.
