Last week, Elon Musk told potential investors that he would fire about 75 percent of Twitter employees if his takeover went through.
Mashable reports, Twitter employees have penned an open letter protesting the plan, saying it would harm Twitter’s ability to serve the public.
“We demand transparent, prompt and thoughtful communication around our working conditions,” the letter read. “We demand to be treated with dignity, and to not be treated as mere pawns in a game played by billionaires.”
“A threat to workers at Twitter is a threat to Twitter’s future,” the letter continued. “These threats have an impact on us as workers and demonstrate a fundamental disconnect with the realities of operating Twitter. They threaten our livelihoods, access to essential healthcare, and the ability for visa holders to stay in the country they work in. We cannot do our work in an environment of constant harassment and threats.”
The company’s employees have already begun to leave due to distrust in leadership and concerns about Musk’s vision.
The Washington Examiner reports, According to Musk, the $44 billion deal to purchase Twitter will be closed on Friday.
