One Look at These Numbers and CNN’s New CEO Will Fire Himself

Spoiler Alert, but the top-rated cable news channel in the United States is not CNN. That’s right, the ratings are in and CNN’s numbers are making headlines – but not for a good reason.

Recently, the television ratings for October were released. Fox News Channel won out, as could be predicted given the constant reorganization at CNN and the much-mocked MSNBC.

Trending Politics reports, It might be a surprise, or at least more of one, that Fox News Channel didn’t just defeat its leftist rivals. Instead, it crushed them.

In addition to beating CNN and MSNBC individually, Fox also beat both combined.

FOX News Digital reports that no other network cracked the one-million viewer mark during Fox News’ average day of 1.5 million viewers. ESPN finished second with 885,000 average total viewers, followed by MSNBC with 751,000 and CNN with 533,000.

During the primetime hours of 8-11 pm ET, Fox News averaged 2.3 million viewers compared to MSNBC’s 1.2 million and CNN’s 624,000. This was CNN’s smallest primetime audience of the year.

For the seventh consecutive month, “The Five” was the most-watched show on cable news…

3.3 million viewers watched Tucker Carlson Tonight, followed by “Jesse Watters Primetime,” “Hannity,”…

In terms of cable news programming, “The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell” was MSNBC’s top program. “The Lead with Jake Tapper” finished No. 24 overall on ratings-challenged CNN.

The average number of viewers for Jake Tapper was only 691,000

The good news for the network is that it doesn’t just appeal to older audiences. Tucker’s show is particularly popular with younger people in the coveted ad demographic (25-54):

As Fox News programs made up the entire top 15 in the critical category, “Tucker” averaged 470,000 viewers among the advertiser-coveted demographic of adults 25-54.

One look at the latest ratings and it’s clear that CNN’s new CEO needs to take action – namely, firing himself. The top-rated cable news channel in the United States is not CNN, as many could have predicted given the network’s recent string of controversies. Fox News Channel easily won out against its leftist rivals, MSNBC and CNN combined. This is due in part to the honest reporting and facts-based approach that FOX News takes. Viewers are tired of seeing biased, partisan reporting from other networks, and they’re tuning in to FOX for a breath of fresh air. In addition to honest reporting, people are also drawn to the network’s personalities. FOX News personalities are relatable and down-to-earth, something that viewers are really responding to. If CNN’s new CEO wants to turn things around, he needs to take a page out of FOX News’ playbook. Otherwise, he’ll be looking for a new job before long.
