President Joe Biden’s Homeland Security secretary faces impeachment proceedings next year if he doesn’t resign.
The Washington Examiner notes that if Alejandro Mayorkas does not resign by Jan. 3, when the new Congress begins, House Republicans will “investigate every order, every action, and every failure and determine whether to initiate impeachment proceedings.”
“Today, I am calling on the secretary to resign,” House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) told reporters in El Paso, Texas. “We cannot and must not remain in that position.”
As a result of GOP control of the House, members of Congress will also be forced to travel to the southern border for committee hearings, he added.
In addition, before McCarthy’s announcement, the House Committee on Oversight and Reform informed Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas that there would be an investigation into the border crisis.
The Representatives sent a letter to Mayorkas on Monday saying that “it is important for the American people, and their elected lawmakers, to understand the role Biden Administration policies have played in fueling the border crisis.”
According to a report by the Federation for American Immigration, 5.5 million illegal immigrants have been encountered at the border under Biden so far.
Border security is now the top priority for the American people, and Mayorkas has failed to protect our borders and our national interests. His incompetence and lack of leadership have allowed 5.5 million illegal immigrants to be encountered at the border so far this year. This is an unacceptable situation, and it’s time for Mayorkas to go. If he doesn’t resign by Jan. 3, when the new Congress begins, House Republicans will investigate his every action and determine whether to initiate impeachment proceedings. It’s time for border security now, and Mayorkas is not the right person to lead that effort.
