Democrat California Gov. Gavin Newsom is trying to quell rumors that he could run for president in 2024 by expressing support for President Joe Biden.

The Daily Wire reports, while Biden has repeatedly said he will run in 2024, some Democrats have expressed skepticism about whether the 80-year-old should do so.

As a potential 2024 candidate, Newsom’s name has been floated around, especially since he is targeting Ron DeSantis (R-FL), one of the GOP’s leading candidates.

However, Newsom, referring to his claim that he won’t challenge Biden, recently told POLITICO, “I’ve told everyone in the White House, from the chief of staff to the first lady.”

According to POLITICO, the governor told White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain and First Lady Jill Biden that he supports Biden’s reelection. “I’m all in, count me in,” he allegedly told the duo.

According to Newsom, even if Biden stepped down from 2024, he would still not be running.

Newsom’s comments echo those he made early this year.

According to the Washington Examiner, during the Texas Tribune’s “trib fest,” a moderator asked Newsom whether he would run for president in 2024 or 2028, and the governor said no. It should be noted that President Joe Biden’s plans were not contingent upon the moderator’s questioning.

As America looks toward the 2024 presidential election, many are wondering who will step up to challenge incumbent Joe Biden.
