Supply chains are affecting more than just what’s on store shelves this holiday season, so some families might not be rocking around a Christmas tree. This year, there will be fewer trees for trimming, according to Christmas tree buyers.
The Washington Examiner went to Meadows Farms Nursery to speak with its vice president, Ron Meadows, who said “Unfortunately, we do have a shortage of trees this year. My order was cut by about 30% from what I wanted to have.” Due to the tree shortage, Meadows said he doesn’t have the inventory of years past and that they will be sold out before Christmas.
He also said that due to inflation, tree prices are going to be higher as well this year. No matter if your tree is real or fake, expect to pay 30% more this year due to labor shortages and higher trucking prices.
As if Christmas could get any worse, a new poll has also come out that shows 81% of parents are cutting Christmas spending this year.
In response to higher prices, more than half of the nation has decided to cut back on holiday spending, according to CRC Research.
During a survey conducted by Secrets for the 85 Fund, the Virginia-based firm found that 56% of people cut back on Thanksgiving spending and 69% on Christmas spending.
Out of that 69%, 81% of parents are considering cutbacks this holiday season.
All-in-all, it’s best to buy early and search for deals for Christmas this year if you want to have a very merry season.
It’s shaping up to be a blue Christmas for many American families. The joy and cheer of the holiday season is in short supply, leaving many kids disappointed when they find out that Santa Claus is not coming to town. Times are tough all around and it looks like the holidays will be sad for many Americans this year.
