Can’t Afford Christmas Dinner? The Washington Post Says Eat Bugs!

According to The Washington Post, Americans should eat bugs instead of a traditional holiday dinner, which is now unaffordable for a quarter of families.

Yes really.

In an article headlined “Salted ants. Ground crickets. Why you should try edible insects,” the Post stated “Consumers can already find foods like salted ants on Amazon and cricket powder protein bars in Swiss grocery stores.”

The article states that, apparently, a six-year-old girl in Pennsylvania was given a rousing ovation when she ate fried worms.

The piece quotes the girl as saying, “It’s not that bad! It kind of tastes like kettle corn!”

The piece then goes on to boast about how crickets have more protein than beef and that people in third world countries are already eating them, so why are Americans any better?

The push for eating bugs and impossible meat as a means of ‘saving the planet’ is growing.

For example, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved a human food derived from cultured animal cells.

Just recently, a company called UPSIDE Foods was granted pre-market consultation approval by the FDA to make cultured animal cell food by taking living cells from chickens and growing them in a controlled environment.

The Washington Post suggesting that people eat bugs this holiday season if they cannot afford a traditional meal is what can only be described as unbelievable. It is unreal that the push for eating bugs and impossible meat as a means of ‘saving the planet’ is growing so quickly. There is something deeply troubling about the idea of eating meat that has been created in a lab rather than coming from an animal, and, not to mention the fact that eating bugs is just plain disgusting. Americans should not have to resort to eating bugs because food prices are so high. Shame on our government for letting things get so out of hand that we’re even considering such a thing. This is just unreal.
