She thought she was so smart, but her luck has run out. Stacey Abrams, long a figure of controversy in American politics, has finally been caught in the act! Her organization, New Georgia Project, has been caught up in a nationwide scheme and now she could be facing criminal charges. There’s no telling how far this scandal will go or who else might get pulled in, but one thing’s for sure–it’s not looking good for Abrams.
The walls are closing in on Stacey Abrams. The State Ethics Commission found probable cause in August that two nonprofit groups had raised and spent millions in support of Democratic candidates, including Abrams, in 2018. Campaign groups in Georgia are required to disclose how much they raise and how they spend their funds.
And now things have gotten worse for Abrams. A Washington Free Beacon investigation found that Stacey Abrams’s New Georgia Project is collecting donations without a license in at least nine states, open to fines and criminal investigations.
The group may soon face more trouble, according to attorney Paul Kamenar of the National Legal and Policy Center.
Kamenar told the Free Beacon, “It’s clear that the New Georgia Project is in gross violation of many state laws by soliciting contributions from the public while their registration as a charity has lapsed,” He noted that his group “plans to file formal complaints with appropriate state enforcement agencies demanding an investigation and imposition of penalties.”
Colorado’s online charity navigator has labeled the New Georgia Project as “EXPIRED-MAY NOT SOLICIT” since Nov. 15.
In Colorado, unlicensed charitable solicitation qualifies as charity fraud, according to Annie Orloff, a spokesperson for the state’s secretary of state. Colorado law states that anyone who commits charity fraud could face criminal penalties.
Licenses for the group have expired in Tennessee, Mississippi, North Carolina, Colorado, North Dakota, Maine, Oklahoma, Maryland, and California.
Music to my ears – it looks like Stacey Abrams and her organization, the New Georgia Project, have been caught illegally collecting donations without having a license in at least nine states. They’ve been soliciting contributions from the public, despite their lapsed charitable registration and violation of many state laws. It’s about time she got caught! We’ve all been suspicious that she was a fraud and now she’s facing criminal charges for charity fraud in Colorado. Reviews will be conducted by the appropriate state enforcement agencies with fines and penalties to follow. All I can say is its about time – glad we finally got her!
