Detroit School Board Goes Against Poll And Votes to Cancel Ben Carson

In a stunning turn of events, the Detroit school board has voted to remove the name of Dr. Ben Carson from one of their schools. In opposition to a poll with students and faculty voting to keep his name on the school. This move by the board is nothing more than political.

America Look out reports, a Detroit school board is trying to remove Ben Carson’s name from a school named after him.

It’s a culture of cancellation. Because Carson worked for the Trump administration, they obviously targeting him.

In spite of this, dozens of people who worked with Carson are stepping up in support of him.

FOX News published a column by them, called We Worked For Dr. Ben Carson. We know Dr. Ben Carson. Canceling Him is just not right.

Here’s a sample of what they had to say about the extraordinary doctor.

“Education is the gateway to opportunity. It’s the medicine that cures most ails, and it is the means by which we equip our next generations with the tools they need to confront the challenges of the future. The schools we construct and the names of the individuals we honor on our school buildings stand as a good barometer for the sort of people we want our young people to emulate.

That’s why we are so perturbed that in mid-November, the Detroit School Board voted to change the name of the Benjamin Carson High School of Science and Medicine despite an administrative recommendation and student poll to keep the name as is…

Dr. Carson is the epitome of the American dream. Only in our country could a poor boy from the inner city grow up to be a world-renowned neurosurgeon, presidential candidate, and Cabinet secretary. He personifies the very promise of America.”

Members of Congress are even coming to Ben Carson’s defense knowing what value Carson has brought to communities across the country.

Congressman Jody Hice in Georgia’s 10th District said this on Twitter: “The woke nonsense must end. Dr. Carson is a patriot with a uniquely American story. The Detroit School Board’s decision to take his name off this school is a travesty.”

Texas Congresswoman Beth Duyne had this to say, “I worked with Dr. Ben Carson at HUD. I know him – he is an incredibly gifted, brilliant, and good man. We shouldn’t be canceling people left and right, especially not Dr. Carson

Even American evangelist Franklin Graham spoke out saying,

“Cancel Culture at its worst. The Detroit School Board voted to change the name of the Benjamin Carson High School of Science and Medicine. I agree with those who worked with Dr.

@RealBenCarson—he should have dozens of schools named after him!

For a community that stresses equality in the academic sphere, they seem to be extremely selective when it comes to who is selected. Rejecting some of the country’s brightest minds for political reasons. This doctor is a good representation of America, and it’s unfortunate that they don’t see him as such.

Fox News reported that Dr. Ben Carson was born in Detroit into poverty and raised by a single mother. His mother worked multiple jobs to support him and his brother, Curtis, as he attended Detroit public schools.

While things were tough, his mother instilled in him and his brother the values of hard work, perseverance, and faith. Through education, she taught them that anything is possible in this country.

As a result of these values instilled by his mother, Dr. Carson earned a full scholarship to Yale and began his undergraduate education there. After Yale, he studied medicine at the University of Michigan, and then neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins University.

He returned to Johns Hopkins as the director of pediatric neurosurgery and led a 70-surgeon team that conducted the first successful separation of twins conjoined at the back of the head. With this famed procedure, he became one of the world’s most prominent pediatric neurosurgeons, especially because of his specialization.

Despite that amazing story and extraordinary career in medicine, his post retirement career is what Detroit has chosen to judge him on.

After retiring from medicine, Dr. Carson ran for president as a Republican and served as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. Today, he continues his work as the founder and chairman of the American Cornerstone Institute, a nonprofit aimed at restoring the “four cornerstones” of American greatness: faith, liberty, community and life.

While it’s easy to bash a conservative politician, Dr. Ben Carson has made a name for himself as a surgeon and accomplished author, making him a more appealing role model for the young kids of the community compared to figures like Saint George Floyd, Brianna Taylor and any other “tragic icons” of our time. It begs the question of who we should be naming schools after if not respected doctors that have made meaningful contributions such as Carson? Do we really want our children aspiring to be forgotten figures that represent tragedy and sadness or should they look up to those whose achievements are exemplified through their dedication to the betterment of our world? Yes, it can be argued that his beliefs align differently than theirs but shouldn’t it also be argued that politics shouldn’t define an entire person’s worth? Before Carson entered the sphere of politics, he was beloved by communities but now all the sudden none of that matters.
