Congress has been gridlocked and unable to draft any meaningful legislation due to partisan politics. But today, that all changed. A new bill has finally been drafted to ban TikTok and it may have bipartisan support in the House.
Town Hall reports, Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) in the upper chamber and Reps. Mike Gallagher (R-WI) and Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) in the House of Representatives introduced legislation to ban the social media video app TikTok in the United States.
It is stated on Senator Rubio’s website that the legislation is intended to protect Americans from foreign adversaries who use current or potential social media companies that these adversaries control to spy on Americans, learn sensitive data about Americans, or spread propaganda, influence campaigns, and censorship.”
Shockingly even MSNBC reported the news.
In spite of the criticism Donald Trump received from Democrats, leftist organizations like the ACLU, and the mainstream media for banning TikTok because it posed a national security threat, the latest effort to stop the CCP-linked company’s operations in the United States is bipartisan.
Here is President Trump blowing the whistle.
In an interview with Fox News last week, Marco Rubio revealed the real reason he wants to ban the platform.
The moment we discovered Tik Tok was tied to the CCP we should have immediately washed our hands from the app.
Free Beacon report in November, On Tuesday, Republican members of Congress pressed TikTok over concerns that the company misled Congress about the amount of user data it shares with China, where the company’s owner ByteDance is based, who will set the House’s agenda next year.
Representative Cathy McMorris Rodgers and Representative James Comer both wrote to TikTok to complain about inaccurate information provided in a staff briefing.
“In a letter dated Tuesday, Republican lawmakers received the following information from TikTok Chief Executive Shou Zi Chew: TikTok does not track U.S. user locations.
That was mistake number one there. Trusting that TikTok would tell the truth about itself and its true purposes.
Congress must take decisive action on the banning of TikTok from American soil. If not, we are supplicating to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and relinquishing our control and authority over our own country. This app cannot be allowed to continue tricking young people into providing their data and compromising national security. Moreover, it is a foundational principle that no foreign power should directly influence what Americans think or do. It is thus paramount that Congress takes immediate action in ensuring that this app is no longer available for use in our country. Failure to act would be a serious dereliction of duty with potentially damaging consequences for years to come.
