Yet Another State Bans TikTok

Another state is joining the long list of those who have banned tiktok, a social media app that many are concerned is a spyware program launched from the Chinese Communist Party.

The list of states banning the popular social media app TikTok is growing, with the latest addition to the group citing spyware and security concerns posed by its Chinese Communist Party origins. The use of spyware being utilized as part of a popular app has gone viral, and has many concerned, especially when it comes to minors and other vulnerable members of society. Not only have experts deemed it bad for kids, but Governments also appear to be getting onboard with the notion that this type of program poses far too many risks from a security standpoint.

Washington Examiner reports, on Monday, New Jersey became the latest state to ban TikTok on government devices.

Gov. Phil Murphy (D-NJ) ordered that state agencies remove the Chinese-owned social media application from all state-owned or state-managed devices and implement network restrictions.

Governor Murphy wrote in a press release “ Bolstering cybersecurity is critical to protecting the overall safety and welfare of our State, The proactive and preventative measures that we are implementing today will ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and safety of information assets managed by New Jersey State government. This decisive action will ensure the cybersecurity of the State is unified against actors who may seek to divide us.”

Recently a bill was passed in the Senate banning Tiktok.

CNET writes. TikTok was recently banned from government mobile devices under a US Senate bill.

Sen. Josh Hawley, a Republican from Missouri, introduced the bill last year. Before it becomes law, it must pass the House and be signed by President Biden.

With New Jersey joining the growing list of those who have banned TikTok, a social media app that has become wildly popular, but is also raising serious security concerns. Many are concerned that spyware from the Chinese Communist Party used to spy on users around the world has been embedded in the program – a scary thought for kids and adults alike. It’s no wonder why many states are taking action and imposing a ban on this viral mobile application – it’s become clear that we can no longer ignore the problems created by Chinese influence and must protect our digital security in whatever way we can. It’s a scary thought that spyware could be used to collect data on users without them even knowing, and it’s even more concerning when that spyware is coming from a country with a history of human rights violations. If you’re using TikTok, it might be time to start looking for alternatives- who knows what kind of data the Chinese government could be collecting on you.
