Last month, 250,000 migrants crossed the southern border, according to data released by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and reported on by the Daily Wire.

Probably in an attempt to keep the news of over a quarter of a million encounters from getting much coverage in the media, the administration released the numbers late Friday evening.

Noting the late night drop of the disgraceful data, the Republican National Committee (RNC) commented, “Trying to hide just how bad the crisis at the border has become, the Biden administration released December border numbers in a late Friday night news dump.”

According to CBP data, 251,487 migrants were encountered at the southern border in December, up from 179,253 in December 2021 and 73,994 in December 2020.

Despite the record number of encounters, CBP Acting Commissioner Troy Miller stated that the data “shows our new border enforcement measures are working,” citing the decrease of Venezuelans unlawfully crossing the southern border.

Miller’s victory lap was overshadowed by the fact that 216,162 “unique individuals” were encountered along the southern border in December 2022, an increase of 11% over November.

Additionally, CBP data shows that 2,414 pounds of deadly fentanyl and 10,308 pounds of methamphetamine were seized at the southern border in December.

The number of illegal immigrants crossing the border has increased to 5.6 million since Biden took office. CBP apprehended five million illegal immigrants and eluded one million gotaways.

It’s clear that the Biden administration is still trying to sweep the border crisis under the rug. By releasing border encounter data late in the night, they attempted to keep key news outlets from reporting on it, but failed. December’s border numbers reveal a staggering 250,000 migrants making their way into our country—a concerning development for national security. Rather than waste time trying to hide these numbers and crack down on border media coverage, it’s important for the Biden administration to focus on real solutions: secure border now and stop hiding the severity of this illegal immigration wave. It’s time for them to get to work.
