Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) has always exhibited a tendency for dramatics when he gets emotional about a particular issue. No exception was made during a press conference about ending Title 42.
Townhall reports, according to Booker, turning illegal immigrants away under the public health order, which is still in effect, is similar to turning away a ship full of Jewish refugees during the Holocaust.
Booker made the comments just one day before Holocaust Remembrance Day.
However, as noted by Breitbart, Title 42 is different. It is a public health measure that allows the U.S. government to turn migrants away because of the ongoing threat of the global coronavirus pandemic. There was no worldwide pandemic in 1939.
At the same press conference, other Democratic members of Congress criticized the Biden administration for using Title 42 for so long. The order contributes to “xenophobia and anti-immigrant violence,” according to Rep. Judy Chu (D-CA).
And Senator Ed Markey called the public health order an “anti-immigrant weapon of mass expulsion.”
Senator Cory Booker’s sick comparison between the current border policy under Title 42 and the Holocaust is reprehensible. His attempt to emotionally exploit one of the most heartbreaking and scarring memories of our time for political gain is sickening. He should be ashamed; it’s clear he has no respect for the memories of those impacted by a horrific period in human history that should never be repeated. Booker’s disturbing comments only one day before Holocaust Remembrance Day serve to show how little regard he had for the gravity of his words. His comments also highlight his lack of understanding about the gravity of both situations.
